Prince Charles, the heir apparent to the British throne, has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to his office on Wednesday.

Prince Charles, 71, is experiencing mild symptoms "but otherwise remains in good health," Clarence House shared in a statement.

The Prince of Wales is currently under self-isolation. He is working from home at the Balmoral Estate in Scotland.

According to the statement, his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, tested negative for the virus.

Prince Charles attended several public engagements during the past few weeks. It was impossible to determine when or where exactly he had caught the virus, the statement explained.

Charles is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, who is now 93. The queen transferred from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle several days before the Easter period.

"Her Majesty The Queen remains in good health," Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

"The Queen last saw The Prince of Wales briefly on the morning of 12th March and is following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare."

"We are all being advised to change our normal routines and regular patterns of life for the greater good of the communities we live in and, in particular, to protect the most vulnerable within them," the queen said in a statement last week.

Reports show that there are 8,077 recorded coronavirus cases so far in the United Kingdom and 422 deaths.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has ordered stern measures on daily life, closing many businesses and advising people to stay indoors for all but essential travels.

The lockdown means that residents can only shop for important things, do exercise once a day, for medical reasons, to provide care to a person in need, and to travel to and from work “when absolutely necessary,” he added. Events of more than two people in public would be banned.
