The best job in the US belongs to data scientists, according to Glassdoor’s “50 Best Jobs in America” for 2019.

For the fourth straight year, data scientists have a median base annual salary of $108,000. A mid-level data scientist is expected to be proficient in Python, R and SQL, and earn up to $130,000 a year.

Following the data scientists are nursing managers at number two with $83,000 and marketing managers at number three with $82,000. Occupational therapists grabbed the fourth spot with $74,000. Product managers completed the top five with $115,000.

The six-figure jobs in Glassdoor’s top 20 list that also scored high in the number of openings, job satisfaction, and earning potential, were devops engineers with $106,000, data engineers at number eight with $100,000, and software engineers at number 10 with $104,000.

Other occupations included were physician assistant at number 12, with $105,000, strategy manager at number 16, with $140,000, and security engineers at number 17 with $102,000.

The “Glassdoor Job Score” is based on: Earning potential (median annual base salary), overall job satisfaction rating, and number of job openings. For a job title that to qualify for the ranking, it must have at least 100 salary reports and at least 100 job satisfaction ratings shared by employees in the US annually. Results reveal job titles that rank the highest among all of those three categories. The report does not include C-suite and intern level jobs.

However, in a separate report by the U.S. News & World Report on the best jobs of the year, software developers top their list. The position boasts flexible hours and remote work set up. They also offer personal and professional development opportunities. Software developers have a median annual salary of over $100,000. They are present in industries like computer systems design, manufacturing, and finance. Physician assistants come second, and dentists land on the third spot.
